Local Shoppers Make the Difference for BBQ Catering Company

On the First Friday of the month, for three hours, customers flock to Albert Pit Barbecue.  It is the only time during the month that our catering company offers carry-out.  To us, it makes a difference to our ability to operate profitably when customers choose to spend their dining dollars locally.

“Our catering kitchen isn’t on the main travel corridor,” says caterer Korey Albert, “so people have to make an effort to come here for dinner.  But when they do, we give them some great barbecue at a fair price.  They help us keep our doors open and, in turn, we employ people, we can support local causes and we purchase from local businesses that we’d hate to see disappear.  It’s a circle. ”

For carryout, drop by our catering kitchen between 4:00 and 7:00 on the First Friday of the month.  The Albert Pit Barbecue Catering Kitchen is located at 3201 East Mulberry, Unit F, Fort Collins at the corner of East Mulberry and Dawn (It is easy to find. We are on Mulberry, east of Timberline and east of Summitview. We are on the south side of the road in the Ironwood Plaza.)

Albert Pit Barbecue Wins BBQ Award

Barbara's Sisters at the Contest in Kansas

Albert Pit Barbecue’s competition barbecue team was awarded ribbons at every barbecue competition the team entered during the 2005 barbecue competition season.

The team took seventh place in the ribs category and eighth place in the chicken category at the BBQ Shootout in Canon City, Colorado. The team was awarded the ninth place ribbon in the chicken category at the Colorado Barbecue Challenge in Frisco, Colorado.

Teams from across the nation competed in the two contests. The teams slept outdoors tending their barbecue pits during the night to prepare their entries for the following morning. The team entries were judged in a blind tasting. Many of the judges were Kansas City Barbeque Society Certified Barbecue Judges. Points were awarded for taste, texture and appearance.

Korey Albert, Pit Boss and owner of Albert Pit Barbecue, said, “It feels great to stand on the award stage among some of the best barbecuers in the nation to be recognized for the food you’ve worked so hard to perfect over the last decade.”

6th Fastest Growing Company

Albert Pit Barbecue is the sixth fastest growing private company with under $2 million in revenues according to the Northern Colorado Business Report’s Mercury 100.

Mercury 100 recognizes the 100 companies who have sustained growth by measuring their 3 year grown rate. The Northern Colorado Business Report features Albert Pit Barbecue with a story and photo in the Mercury 100 edition on May 23, 2008.

We have been growing! We’ve grown our revenues 187% over the last three years and 64% just in the past year. During that time we’ve grown from a 1-person operation to a staff of four. We’ve even grown in the number of guests that we serve. By smartly adding equipment and staff, we can now serve over 1,000 guests at one meal and can cater as many as 20 events in a weekend…in fact we regularly do so.

In short, we’ve done an impossible amount of work, with a small number or people, in a short amount of time.

We are especially grateful for Nick Poncelow and Brett Anderson. Two hardworking men that spend part of each of their weeks hand-pulling chicken and pork, filling sauce bottles, cutting brownies, making cole slaw, washing dishes, and treating Albert Pit Barbecue customers as if they were owners, too.

There would be no need for us to make our barbecue without someone to eat it, to recommend it to their friends and co-workers, and to come back again and again. We are grateful that our clients let us cater their company picnics, weddings, funerals, business lunches, graduation parties, backyard barbecues, birthday parties, open houses and retirement parties. We are glad to see them come in on First Friday for take-out. We are pleased that our smoked turkeys and hams are on their holiday tables. For our customers, we are grateful.

A growing business allows us to give back to our community.

We are proud to support the Food Bank, Poudre Valley Hospital Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, United Nation World Food Program and mission trips for youth that serve in Mexico, New Orleans, Chicago and New Mexico.

Thank you for making us number 6! Now buy some barbecue…we are aiming for number one next year!
